John Deere says 238 employees in Illinois and Iowa will be laid off in the coming weeks.

In a statement to Brownfield, the company said the workforce reduction will impact 115 workers at Harvester Works in East Moline, Illinois, 52 employees at Seeding and Cylinder in Moline, Illinois, and 71 workers at the Foundry operations in Waterloo, Iowa.

John Deere says the job cuts are a result of decreased demand and lower order volumes. In its most recent earnings call, the company said the struggling ag economy continues to impact orders for John Deere equipment.

In their media statement, the company noted that it’s investing nearly $20 billion over the next decade to upgrade and enhance manufacturing facilities across the U.S.
