A man from Hedrick was arrested on Saturday, August 3, after a high-speed motorcycle chase in Knoxville.
According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was patrolling near the 1600 block of East Main Street when he observed a motorcycle going 46 mph in a 35 mph zone. The driver, later identified as 49-year-old Shannon Spears, turned onto South Attica Road and sped up even more in a 25 mph zone.
The deputy turned on his lights and siren, but Spears didn’t stop. Instead, he kept going, reportedly reaching over 60 mph. The chase continued westbound onto Highway 92 at Exit 60, where court documents say Spears was going over 125 mph.
The deputy followed Spears until he finally stopped in the 1500 block of 110th Avenue. The officer pulled his firearm and ordered Spears to the ground. Spears listened and was taken into custody without any further issues.
He was read his rights and asked for a lawyer.
Spears is being held in the Marion County Jail. He’s facing a Class D felony charge of eluding law enforcement while speeding more than 25 mph over the limit. His preliminary court hearing is scheduled for August 7 at 9 a.m. His bond is set at $5,000 cash.
