On July 22, 2025, Mildred (Morris) Amos of Ottumwa, IA passed away peacefully at the age of 94. She is survived by her daughter Cindy (Jim) Brown, son Reggie (Mary), daughter Connie (John) Malloy, and her granddaughter Hannah Malloy. She was preceded in death by three sons, Frank Jr. (1953), Randy (1961), and Reece (2023), as well as her parents, Henry and Gladys Morris and her sisters, June Larsen and JoAnne Napier.
Milly loved Ottumwa, her lifelong hometown, and she did many things throughout her life that demonstrated her love of the community from her homespun newspaper first titled The Eastend Gazette, then The Quincy, and finally Rippling Waters Review. Through Manpower, she helped many people in southeastern Iowa find jobs. But perhaps what she was most proud of was the replica of the Coal Palace, which she created with the help of many local artists and craftsmen. The Coal Palace replica is currently on display in the lobby of the Amtrak Station.
Milly spent many years involved with the Wapello County Historical Society, now named the Iowa Heartland History Connection, which is a wonderful place to make a donation in honor of Milly, her life, and her love of history and Ottumwa.
Her body has been cremated and no services are planned at this time.
