William Cecil Cole, aged 92, passed away on June 2, 2025. Born on November 16, 1932, in Mt. Sterling, IA. Cecil lived a full life, known for his dedication, warmth, gardening and love of adventure.
A Korean War Army veteran, Cecil worked as a Correctional Officer at the Iowa State Penitentiary, where he spent many years serving with pride. His commitment to his work was matched only by his deep love for his family. He took great joy in traveling, exploring new places and creating lasting memories.
In addition to his career and passions, Cecil was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his two children: Dusty Cole and his wife Linda of Schertz, Texas, and Donna Johnson and her husband Donald of Troy, Missouri. He also leaves behind four grandchildren: Amber Misek and her husband Mark, Leah Hughes and her husband Lee, Alicia Casiano and her husband Philip, Justin Johnson and his wife Amanda; and six great-grandchildren: Trinity, Veronica, Elliot, Ivan, Cooper and Finn. He is survived by his siblings Minnie Thomas, Ora (Joey) Lunsford and Sandy Cole; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his close companion, Beverly Stiles. All who will forever cherish his wisdom and love.
Cecil was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia Joanne (Lee) Cole, in 2004 and granddaughter Tara Cole, in 1983. He was also predeceased by his parents Frederick Clyde and Willa Mae Cole and his siblings: Vera Krouse-Link, Richard Cole, James Cole, Lucy Cole, Freddie Cole, Benjamin Cole, Georgia Hoffman and Johnny Cole. They were all dear to him and whose memories he carried with him throughout his life.
A man of quiet strength, uncanny common sense and remarkable sense of humor, Cecil’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and in the memories of the many adventures and stories he shared with his loved ones.
Services will be held in his honor will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 13, 2025, at the Cranston Family Funeral Home in Keosauqua, IA with Rev. Ellis Andrews officiating. Burial will be in the Montrose Cemetery immediately following. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, Jun 13, 2025, at the funeral home and will last until the time of service.
