The Mount Pleasant Correctional Facility recently held a heartfelt event called “We’ve Got Your Back,” aimed at supporting kids who are entering the foster care system.
In partnership with Four Oaks Foster Care, staff and incarcerated individuals worked together to pack backpacks and duffle bags full of essentials like hygiene products, clothes, and blankets. These simple items are meant to help kids feel a little more comfortable during what can be a tough and uncertain time.
What’s really inspiring is that many of the donations came from the incarcerated people themselves. Some gave several dollars, while others donated the last pennies they had. Staff, families, and community fundraisers also pitched in to make sure the bags were filled. Everyone who contributed was honored during the event.
Dozens of bags were packed during the day, and those involved said it gave them a strong sense of purpose and pride. The organizers hope this event will continue and grow, bringing more community partners together to help even more kids in Iowa.
