The Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce the 5th Annual Bike Safety and Rodeo program for after-school students at Pence Elementary! This engaging, educational event is made possible by the generous support of our Presenting Sponsors: Jefferson County Health Center and Dexter Laundry. Thanks to our Materials Sponsors, Impact Fitness and The Ride Bike Shop, the entire program is offered free of charge to participating students.
Event Highlights: Over two days, Chamber volunteers will lead a series of fun, hands-on safety stations teaching key biking skills, including:
- Hand signals and road signs
- Traffic rules and bike safety basics
- Simple bike maintenance and the “ABCs of Bike Safety”
- Helmet safety, demonstrated through the ever-popular egg drop experiment
New This Year: Jefferson County Health Center will help students create and decorate first aid kits for their bikes—a creative and practical addition to the program.
Schedule:
- Tuesday and Thursday: Bike safety stations
- Friday, May 2: Bike Rodeo obstacle course, where students will practice turning, starting, stopping, and safely navigating around others
Special Notes:
- Please watch for young cyclists around Pence Elementary on Friday, May 2, as students are encouraged to ride their bikes to school!
- The Ride Bike Shop will provide extra bikes so everyone can participate.
- Every student will be fitted for a helmet. Students without a properly fitting or undamaged helmet will receive a free replacement, thanks to a generous donation of 50 helmets from Blank Children’s Hospital.
- Six lucky students will win brand-new bikes: two donated by TrafFix Devices and four donated by AERON Lifestyle Technology.
Graduation Celebration: Join us at 4:10 p.m. on Friday, May 2, at the Pence playground shelter for the graduation ceremony! Families are invited to celebrate their young riders’ achievements. Students will enjoy popsicles and, new this year, every child will receive a free book, courtesy of Cranston Family Funeral Homes.
More Exciting News: Thanks to funding from AERON Lifestyle Technology, Fairfield Police Officers will be out rewarding young riders spotted wearing helmets with free ice cream certificates from Dairy Bar. Officers will also have helmets available for students in need (while supplies last).

Held each May during National Bike Safety Month, the event celebrates Fairfield’s strong biking culture, supported by our city’s 16 miles of loop trail. Through programs like this, we aim to inspire more children to ride to school confidently and safely.
