Des Moines police say a female postal employee is facing felony charges in the shooting Thursday morning at the downtown post office.

Thirty-nine-year-old Jennifer Pledger of West Des Moines is charged with two counts each of attempted murder and willful injury, and one count of intimidation with a dangerous weapon. Police say witnesses reported Pledger went to the second floor around 9 a.m. and shot a female employee and then stood over her after she fell to the floor and fired again.

Witnesses told police Pledger then fired in the direction of other employees as they fled the area of the shooting.  A 45 and a 53-year-old female were hit by gunfire, while a 55-year-old man fleeing the shooting fell and was injured. The injuries for all three are not believed to be life-threatening, and they were listed in stable condition.

Officers found Pledger outside of the building and took her into custody. A nine-millimeter handgun was recovered from the scene, and police say Pledger has not made any comments regarding a motive for the shooting.
