Terry Eugene Lister, 78, of rural Bloomfield, Iowa passed away on January 2, 2025 at his home. He was born on December 13, 1946 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Hubert Vern and Aleen LaVonne Cook Lister. He married Mary Ann Schilling on May 26, 1968 in Chariton, Iowa. The couple lived on their century farm in Davis County and raised five children; Michelle, Brian, Nicole, Clayton, and Clinton.
Terry graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Farm Operations and Agriculture Education. After graduation, he returned home and made a career of being a farmer. He loved raising row crops and cattle but his true farming passion was raising and showing purebred spotted hogs. He spent countless hours and traveled countless miles over the Midwest showing spotted hogs. The only thing he loved more was spending time with his family and children; whether it was going to sporting events or music concerts, Terry made sure to make every one he could. The highlight of the year was the family gathering at the Iowa State Fair on show day.
Terry was an active member of many organizations over the years. He was a charter member of the Davis County Pork Producers, President of the Bloomfield FFA, member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity, President of the ISU Farm Operation Club while attending Iowa State, as well as the Iowa and National Spotted Swine Associations. In his teen years, Terry’s father “recruited him” to help clear brush and trees on the land that would become the I-MO Christian Service Camp, something he remained proud of many years later. Terry was a member of the Stiles Christian Church. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lister; five children, Michelle (Craig) Sehmann of N. Liberty, Iowa, Brian (Amy) Lister of Peoria, Illinois, Nicole (Fred) Stevens of Blue Springs, Nebraska, Clayton (Brooke) Lister of Peoria, Illinois, Clinton Lister of Glasgow, Kentucky; seven grandchildren, Grant and Blake Sehmann, Ian and Emma Lister, Azlynn and Bo Stevens, Harrison Lister; sister, Diana (Jaime) Andrade of Evergreen, Colorado; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister and her husband, Betty and Jerry Hughes.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 10, 2025 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Tim Sprouse officiating. Burial will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Friday with the family present to greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. A memorial has been established to the I-MO Christian Service Camp.
