Anthony Ray Allen, better known around these parts as Tony Allen Sr, or just Tony to those lucky enough to know him passed away on December 24, 2024 at the UnityPoint Health – Iowa Methodist Hospital. He was born on January 28, 1958, in Knoxville, IA, and having hung his hat in Lovilia, Iowa, for the last 20 years, Tony spent his life making us laugh, sharing his love of the outdoors, and perfecting the art of countryside cruising. He was a man who was as comfortable in the woods as he was in a kitchen, proving that real men can, in fact, do both. Tony was the kind of guy who could turn a casual conversation into an impromptu comedy show, making him the perfect antidote for a bad day. His sense of humor was only rivaled by his love for western movies and country music, which he enjoyed with an enthusiasm that was contagious. Let’s not forget his culinary skills though, his cooking was legendary, turning even the simplest dishes into a culinary masterpiece. He was the kind of humble guy who didn’t need a fancy title or a big office, although he did graduate from Twin Cedars High-school class of 1976, which is no small feat in and of itself. Tony’s loyal heart extended beyond his human companions and out into the natural world. He adored hunting, fishing, and just being outdoors, a love he shared with his late wife. He was the kind of loving father who enjoyed long phone conversations with his children, and who would help Colton work on things, probably while cracking jokes and humming a country tune. Later in life, Tony grew a great strength in his faith in Christ, spending lots of time reading his bible. He is survived by his children, Anthony Jr. (Iuliana) Allen of Pella, Colton Allen of Lovilia; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren; mother, Bernice “Marlene” Allen; one sister, Julie (Junior) Dykstra; daughter-in-law, Angie Allen; one brother-in-law, Duane Reed, mother and father-in-law, Kelly and Tootie Flanegin, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Diane Allen; father, Victor “Hank” Allen; son, Randy Allen; sister, Shelly Reed; and brother, Rick Allen.
