A missing central Iowa man was found dead Sunday morning according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office says it was contacted by the Polk Count Sheriff’s Office on Saturday just after 7:00 PM in regards to a 37-year-old Des Moines man who was reported missing by a friend. Authorities say the man was duck hunting and his boat took in water. The reporting party was unsure what body of water the missing man was hunting on.
Marion County Deputies were able to locate the missing man’s vehicle at a boat ramp in Marion County. Officials launched a search and requested additional help. The water search was suspended at midnight and resumed Sunday morning.
At approximately 8:30 AM on Sunday, the body of the missing man was found in Lake Red Rock by Marion County Sheriff Jason Sandholdt and a deputy. The identity of the deceased has been withheld pending family notification.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office says it was assisted by the Iowa DNR, Knoxville Fire and Rescue, and Knoxville Rural Fire.
