Jon Douglas “Doug” Haynes, aged 63, of Stockport, passed away on November 15, 2024. Born on October 20, 1961, in Laramie, Wyoming, to John Henry Jr. and Carole Jean (Troutman) Haynes. Doug was a beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather whose warmth and dependability touched the lives of all who knew him.
Doug’s early years were spent in Bonaparte, where he moved shortly after his birth and where he formed lasting memories and friendships. A graduate of Harmony High School in 1980, he went on to attend Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, obtaining a degree in natural science. His love for the land and nature led him to a fulfilling career as a soil conservation tech with the NRCS office in Keosauqua, a role he dedicated himself from April 1983 until his retirement in December of 2022.
On December 29, 1984, Doug married his soulmate, Tina Amanda Twiss, in a beautiful ceremony at the Bonaparte Baptist Church. Together, they built a life filled with love, music, and laughter. Doug’s retirement years were spent working as a substitute mail carrier and contributing his time at the Fairfield Rec Center, he currently was working as a contract employee through MEC Energy. His commitment to the outdoors was evident through his long-standing role as the caretaker at Morris Park outside of Stockport, a position he held since April 1989.
Doug’s passion for trains was more than a hobby; it was a reflection of his journey through life—steady, reliable, and full of discovery. He was also a talented self-taught guitar player, often sharing his love for music with his wife and family. Doug’s dedication to his family was unwavering, and he was often described as steady as a rock—a man who could always be relied upon in times of need.
His memory will be cherished by his loving family, including his two sons, Spencer and Bryce Haynes of Stockport; his daughter, Danielle Akron (Stewart) of Muscatine; his brothers, Justin and Fred Haynes; his sisters, Elizabeth “Libby” Kuster (Dean), Janet Fett, and Susanne Haynes, all of Bonaparte; and his seven grandchildren, Allison, Elizabeth, Mollie, Rowan, Riddick, Rilea, and Lilly. Doug also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, John and Carole, and his beloved wife, Tina.
Doug’s life was a testament to the power of quiet strength and unwavering love. While he may no longer be with us in body, his spirit lives on in the beauty of the park he tended, the music he played, and the loving family he nurtured.
