An Ottumwa man was arrested after he drove away from the scene of a shooting earlier this month, according to the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office.
18-year-old William Silas Jr. was charged with eluding or attempting to elude a law enforcement vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, and other traffic violations.
Sheriff Don Phillips says at approximately 2:24 AM on July 12, deputies heard several gunshots in Ottumwa and drove to the area of the shooting. The deputies observed a brown Chevy Malibu driving recklessly in the area and attempted to stop the vehicle.
The vehicle did not stop and a chase began. The pursuit went into rural Wapello County and came to an end at Highway 63 and Eddyville Road.
Silas was taken into custody and transported to the Wapello County Jail. He was later released after posting a $2,000 bond.
