Mahaska County Conservation is launching a four-year woodland improvement project aimed at improving forest health and controlling invasive plant species throughout several county conservation areas.
The $150,000 project will include aerial spraying at Eveland Access, Evertrue, White Oak Conservation Area and Quercus Wilderness Area.
As part of the work, the affected parks may experience temporary closures between November 4 and November 18. Visitors planning to hunt, hike or explore these areas during that period are encouraged to check for possible closures before heading out.
Mahaska County Conservation is asking visitors to plan accordingly and contact its office at 641-673-9327 to confirm whether a park will be closed on a particular day.
Park Ranger Tommy VanRenterghem shared information about the project and what visitors can expect during the improvement work.
The four-year effort is intended to help protect and maintain the county’s woodlands for future generations.
