A northeast Iowa woman died Saturday night when the motorcycle she was riding collided with a deer.

The Clayton County Sheriff’s office says three motorcycles were on a road in the northeastern part of the county when the lead motorcycle struck a white-tailed deer that had entered the road. The 42-year-old driver of the motorcycle was seriously hurt and airlifted to a hospital in Wisconsin. Kelley Knockel of Colesburg, the 34-year-old passenger, was killed.

A 58-year-old from Guttenberg who was driving the second motorcycle took evasive action, but was seriously injured and taken to the hospital in Guttenberg for treatment. The driver and a passenger on the third motorcycle were not injured.
