Jefferson County voters preparing for the November 3rd, 2026 General Election should be aware of several upcoming deadlines for voter registration and absentee voting, according to information provided by the Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce.
The pre-registration deadline is Monday, October 19th at 5:00 p.m. Voters are encouraged to review their registration information before the deadline to ensure their name, residential address, and other details are current. Registration status can be checked and registration information can be found at the Iowa Secretary of State’s website at sos.iowa.gov.
In-person absentee voting begins Wednesday, October 14th at the Jefferson County Election Office, located on the main floor of the Jefferson County Courthouse at 51 East Briggs Avenue in Fairfield. Regular office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Extended hours will be available on Monday, October 19th until 5:00 p.m., Friday, October 30th until 5:00 p.m., and Saturday, October 31st from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday, November 2nd is the final day to vote absentee in person.
For those wishing to vote by mail, absentee ballots may begin being mailed to voters on October 14th. Voters must submit a completed absentee ballot request form to the Jefferson County Auditor by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 19th. The official absentee ballot request form is available at sos.iowa.gov and completed forms should be mailed or delivered to the Jefferson County Auditor at 51 East Briggs Avenue, Fairfield, Iowa 52556.
