With harvest season underway, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is reminding motorists to exercise caution when sharing the road with farm machinery, according to a social media post from the office.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking drivers to be patient, as farm equipment moves significantly slower than normal traffic. Motorists should allow extra room and be ready to slow down or stop when approaching machinery. When passing, drivers should only do so when it is safe — with clear visibility and plenty of room. Drivers should also watch for the orange slow-moving vehicle triangle and flashing lights on farm equipment.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said the reminders are aimed at keeping both farmers and all others traveling county roads safe throughout the harvest season.
