Jefferson County Supervisor Joe Ledger is seeking donations of small items to be placed in a time capsule that will be buried in the Courthouse lot, according to a social media post from the Carnegie Historical Museum in Fairfield.
Items can be representative of the year 2026 or from Jefferson County’s past. Suggested donations include photographs or documents from the present or past, a letter written to Jefferson County citizens of the future — to be opened in 2076 — and touristy or advertising items from any of Jefferson County’s towns, businesses or individuals.
Those interested in donating can visit the Carnegie Historical Museum, which currently has a full display of items that were buried in the 1976 time capsule and dug up this year, for inspiration.
Donations can be dropped off at the Jefferson County Auditor’s office at the Courthouse or brought to the Carnegie Historical Museum. Those bringing items to the museum should notify staff that they are intended for the time capsule.
