The National Weather Service has cancelled the Flood Watch that had been in effect for portions of central Iowa.

The cancellation was issued at 1:21 p.m. Thursday, October 1, after officials determined that flooding is no longer expected to pose a threat across the affected areas.

The Flood Watch included Wapello County and the Ottumwa area, along with numerous counties across central and southern Iowa.

Although the Flood Watch has been cancelled, the National Weather Service is reminding residents to continue to heed remaining road closures and use caution when traveling in areas that may have experienced flooding.

Motorists should never attempt to drive through flooded roadways and should follow all posted closure signs and local travel advisories.
