The Fairfield Art Association will host a retrospective exhibit of miniature ceramic pieces and jewelry by artist Doug Burbeck in the Hallway Gallery at the Fairfield Arts and Convention Center.
A reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6. The exhibit runs through the end of December.
Burbeck began painting on ceramic in 1971 and has worked as a full-time ceramic artist since 1978. He developed a unique, highly detailed approach using underglazes on greenware — unfired clay — which is then fired and glazed. In some cases, gold and other lusters are applied and the pieces fired again. Many of the one-of-a-kind works are mounted on jewelry findings to become wearable fine art.
Burbeck started his practice in California and lived in Fairfield from 1982 until 2004, when he moved to Eagle Creek, Oregon, where he lived for more than 20 years. He has recently returned to Fairfield and resumed his ceramics practice here.
The exhibit offers a rare chance to see a wide selection of Burbeck’s most complex, detailed and unusual work spanning more than half a century of his craft.
