What Cheer City Clerk Melanie Vermillion has announced that she will be transitioning to a part-time role with the city beginning in October after accepting a full-time position at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in North Liberty, according to a social media post from the City of What Cheer.
Starting in October, What Cheer City Hall hours will be Thursday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Vermillion said that after 23 years of working with the city she is confident she can continue to handle city business on a part-time basis and noted the arrangement will also save the city money on payroll.
Water bill payments can be made by mail, using the drop box, or online at pay.waterbill.com/login-whatcheer.ia. Residents who have not yet signed up for the online payment option will need their account number, which can be found on their water bill.
Those needing to reach City Hall during non-business hours can email the city at cityofwhatcheer@gmail.com, call and leave a message at 641-634-2590, or message the city through its Facebook page. The mayor and city staff will be checking the answering machine daily throughout the week.
Vermillion said she has thought the decision over carefully. “I have thought this over for awhile and this move is best for me at this time in my life,” she said. “If this does not work, I will be the first to say that it is my time to step away and the city can hire a new clerk that I would be willing to train.”
