Mahaska Health is honored to welcome Drew Richmond, MD, General Surgeon, to its growing
surgical team. Dr. Richmond returns to Oskaloosa to provide comprehensive surgical care for
patients throughout the region.
Dr. Richmond specializes in a broad range of general surgery procedures, including hernia
repair, colorectal surgery, endoscopy, and advanced minimally invasive procedures. He is
trained in both traditional and minimally invasive surgical techniques, including laparoscopic
and robotic-assisted surgery using the da Vinci surgical system.
Dr. Richmond earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine and
completed his general surgery residency at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines,
Iowa. During his residency, he completed surgical rotations at Mahaska Health, giving him the
opportunity to care for patients in his home community. Dr. Richmond’s connection to
Mahaska Health extends beyond his own medical training. His father, Dr. Shawn Richmond,
Mahaska Health Family Medicine Medical Director, has cared for patients at Mahaska Health
for more than 25 years.
In his practice, Dr. Richmond prioritizes patient education, open and honest communication,
and continuity of care. He works closely with patients and their families throughout the surgical
process, from the initial consultation through recovery, helping them understand their options
and feel confident in their care plan.
“Dr. Richmond brings advanced surgical training along with a genuine connection to the people
and communities we serve,” shared Dr. Timothy Breon, Mahaska Health Chief Medical Officer
and General Surgeon. “We are excited to welcome him home and to our General Surgery team.
His training and skills will help us continue providing a broad spectrum of general surgical
services designed to meet the acute and chronic surgical needs of our region.”
