Keokuk County residents within the Tri-County Community School District will have the opportunity to vote on a special school election on Tuesday, September 8th, with all polls open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
For this election only, voters in the Tri-County Community School District who reside in Van Buren Township will be voting at a temporary polling location — Thomas Hall at the What Cheer Fairgrounds, located at 13061 170th Street in What Cheer.
The election features Public Measure MK, which asks voters whether to authorize the Tri-County Community School District to levy an annual voter-approved physical plant and equipment property tax not to exceed $1.34 per $1,000 of assessed valuation of taxable property within the district for a period of 10 years, beginning with the fiscal year ending June 30, 2029. If approved, the funds could be used for a wide range of purposes including purchasing and improving grounds, constructing or repairing school buildings, purchasing technology and equipment, procuring libraries, energy conservation expenditures, and purchasing transportation equipment, among other uses authorized by law.
Pre-registered voters must provide an approved form of identification at the polls before casting a ballot. Voters registering on election day or changing precincts must also provide proof of residence. Voters unable to provide identification may cast a provisional ballot and provide proof of identity or residence at the county auditor’s office by noon on Monday, September 14th. Any voter who is physically unable to enter a polling place has the right to vote from their vehicle.
The Keokuk County Auditor’s office will be closed Monday, September 7th for the Labor Day holiday. Public testing of voting equipment will be held Tuesday, September 1st beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the Elections Room on the second floor of the Keokuk County Courthouse in Sigourney.
