Joan and Jim Salts were presented with the 2026 Maasdam Barns Workhorse Award during a volunteer appreciation dinner on October 18th, according to a press release from Visit Fairfield CVB, which sponsors the award.
The Salts have become an indispensable part of the Maasdam Barns, one of Fairfield’s historic attractions, through their work maintaining the barns, welcoming visitors, helping with events, museum acquisitions, tours and countless behind-the-scenes tasks.
Terry Baker, Executive Director of Visit Fairfield, praised the couple’s commitment to preserving local history.
“Every community has those people who just keep showing up and making good things happen. Joan and Jim are two of those people. They give their time, their energy and their hearts to preserving an important piece of Fairfield’s history. We’re lucky to have them,” Baker said.
The Workhorse Award recognizes volunteers whose efforts help preserve and share the history of the Maasdam Barns with residents and visitors alike.
“Places like the Maasdam Barns don’t thrive on history alone. They thrive because people care enough to keep that history alive,” Baker added.
