Student Conduct Leads to Oskaloosa Cancellations

Oskaloosa Schools has canceled Friday night’s varsity football game following reports of student misconduct connected to Thursday night’s Homecoming activities.

School officials and law enforcement were made aware of several incidents during the evening, including reported vandalism, the use of racial slurs, inappropriate comments directed at staff, and behavior that left some families feeling threatened or uncomfortable.

The district says the reports are still under investigation.

Along with canceling Friday’s football game, school officials have also called off Friday’s pep assembly. The Homecoming dance, meanwhile, has been postponed until a later date.

Students believed to have been involved have been asked to report to the Oskaloosa High School office by noon Monday and take responsibility for their actions.

Oskaloosa Schools Activities Director Jamie Jacobs said the district wants students to understand that accountability is an important part of moving forward.

Jacobs said the goal is not only to address what happened, but also to help students recognize how their actions affect others and make amends when harm has been done.

The district says it will continue gathering information and working with students and families as the investigation continues. Officials also reiterated that the school community should be a place where students, staff and families feel safe and respected.
