OPD: Drunk Driver Fled Scene after Accident

Ottumwa police say a drunk driver with a barred license fled the scene of an accident over the weekend.

Bob Jally Bob, 43, was charged with operating under the influence – second offense and driving while barred. Both charges are aggravated misdemeanors.

Court records say Bob was operating a motor vehicle on September 5th at approximately 10:43 AM when he was involved in an accident at Central Park that resulted in property damage.

According to authorities, Bob was located and admitted to driving the offending the vehicle involved in the accident. Police say Bob displayed bloodshot, watery eyes, and the odor of alcohol was emanating from him. Bob allegedly admitted he drank a six-pack of alcoholic beverages to law enforcement and consented to standardized field sobriety tests, which indicated impairment. A PBT showed Bob’s BAC was above the legal limit of 0.08%, according to the criminal complaint.

Court documents reveal Bob was previously convicted of operating while intoxicated in February. Bob’s driving status was also barred, dating back to March.

Bob was taken into custody and transported to the Wapello County Jail, where he is being held on a $4,000 bond.

Bob has a preliminary hearing scheduled for September 15th.
