John Edward Keasling, age 76, of Hedrick, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Good Samaritan in Ottumwa. He was born on April 24, 1950, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Deal and Josephine (Stellgas) Keasling. He attended Fremont High School. In 1972, he was united in marriage to Gail Wulff in Fremont, Iowa.
John worked for McCurdy Seed for several years and drove a school bus until 2007 when he retired. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, mushroom hunting, browsing at flea markets and attending auctions.
He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Gail Keasling of Hedrick, his children, Danny (Darcy) Keasling, Richard Keasling and Margaret (Eric) Ellsworth; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and his siblings, Dorothy, Donna, and Joe.
John was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Leroy, Dewane and Linda.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the Fremont Funeral Chapel with pastor Phil Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow services at Pennington Cemetery south of Sigourney. The Fremont Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Fremont Funeral Chapel with John’s family present to greet relatives and guests. Memorials may be made to the family.
