The Iowa Gold Star Military Museum will dedicate its new exhibit, “Military Nurses: An Iowa Story of Service & Sacrifice,” on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Camp Dodge in Johnston.
The public is invited to join the Museum, the Iowa National Guard, veterans, military families and friends for this meaningful event honoring the generations of military nurses whose courage, compassion and commitment have cared for America’s service members in times of war and peace.
The dedication will feature the Iowa Nurse Honor Guard and Lt. Col. Katie Lunning, a critical care nurse at the VA Central Iowa Health Care System whose distinguished military service represents the continuing legacy of Iowa nurses who have answered the call to serve.
Throughout our nation’s military history, nurses have served wherever they were needed—caring for the wounded, comforting those in their care, supporting military families, and bringing extraordinary skill and compassion to some of the most difficult circumstances imaginable.
The new exhibit brings their stories into focus and ensures their contributions are remembered as an important part of Iowa’s military history.
“Military Nurses: An Iowa Story of Service & Sacrifice” reflects the mission of the Iowa Gold Star Military Museum to honor, preserve and share the military history of Iowa and Iowans. Located at Camp Dodge, the Museum works alongside the Iowa National Guard and the broader military and Veteran community to connect current and future generations with the service and sacrifice of those who have worn our nation’s uniform.
The October 10 dedication offers Iowans an opportunity not only to experience the new exhibit, but also to recognize the nurses whose service has been an essential part of America’s military story.
