Grassley urges Thune to bring farm bill to Senate floor

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley suggests partisan politics remain a stumbling block for the farm bill.

The Iowa Republican has been in Congress more than 50 years and tells Brownfield this is the first farm bill he’s worked on that’s not bipartisan.

“So I think that Thune is going to have to force the issue on the United States Senate Floor.”

No Democrats on the Senate Ag Committee voted for the farm bill this week and he says Senate Majority Leader John Thune will need to put it on the agenda ahead of the November elections.

“And force the Democrats to either bring it up and let us debate it and pass it, or if it isn’t brought up then they’re going to be held responsible if every Democrat on the Floor of the United States voted against it then they’d have to pay the price in the next election.”

The Senate is scheduled to remain in session through early October.
