The Fairfield Beautification Commission has presented First United Methodist Church with a Rose Award for Excellence in Landscaping, recognizing the gardens that grace the church grounds and contribute to the appearance of the community, according to a social media post from the commission.
The gardens hold special significance beyond their beauty — they are sponsored by Chuck and Jan Espy as a gift of love to the congregation, the neighborhood, and everyone who passes by. With colorful plantings and a welcoming presence, the gardens soften and enhance the historic church grounds while creating a sense of warmth, care, and hospitality.
“Beautification is about more than appearances — it is about creating places that lift the spirit and show pride in the community we share,” the commission said in its announcement.
The commission extended its appreciation to Chuck and Jan Espy for their generosity and to First United Methodist Church for helping make Fairfield a more beautiful and welcoming place.
