Beef and forage producers interested in strengthening their fall management plans are invited to a pasture walk on Sept. 9 at Sandeen Genetics, located at 3261 Monroe-Wapello Road, Blakesburg.
Hosted by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, the pasture walk will provide timely information producers can use to improve the productivity and long-term health of their forage and beef operations. Topics to be covered include pasture weed identification and management, fall soil fertility planning and replacement heifer selection.
“This pasture walk is an opportunity for producers to see and discuss several important fall management decisions that affect both forage and beef operations,” said Logan McCrea, field agronomist with ISU Extension and Outreach. “Fall can be one of the best times to address common pasture weeds, evaluate soil fertility needs and make management decisions that can improve productivity in the years ahead.”
The pasture walk will begin at 4:30 p.m. and conclude at approximately 8 p.m. A meal will be provided during the event, sponsored by South Ottumwa Savings Bank. Pre-registration is not required but is strongly encouraged for an accurate headcount for the meal. On-site registration the day of the event will be available.
