A farm equipment specialist says an abundant supply is softening the price of used combines.
Jeff Madsen is the remarketing manager for CLAAS of America and tells Brownfield there’s a large inventory available.
“Coming off a number of years where we had very large new sales across the industry, so right now it’s turning into being a great time to buy for farmers because there’s a lot of options.”
He is seeing an uptick in sales.
“So when we’re looking at times to buy, I think especially from a buyer’s perspective, the time to buy I would say is right now. Because we could in a year or two be looking at more of an upswing again in pricing.”
Madsen says seasonally combine sales trend higher as harvest nears.
“We always have the last-minute impulse buys, there’s lots of guys that decide you know the crop is coming in looking really good and I need to add a machine or I need to do something.”
The Association of Equipment Manufacturers says June marked the first positive monthly comparison for combines in several months, with sales up nearly four percent year over year.
