Sigourney Elementary School Shares Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures Ahead of First Day

With the first day of school arriving Tuesday, the Sigourney Community School District has shared drop-off and pick-up procedures for Sigourney Elementary School, according to a notice from the district.

Morning Drop-Off

Students should not be dropped off before 8:00 a.m., as supervision does not begin until that time. When the 8:00 a.m. bell rings, students may enter through the playground doors and go downstairs to breakfast if they are eating at school. All other students should remain outside on the blacktop in their class lines, with staff available to help students find their correct line.

All car riders must use Shuffleton Street for drop-off. Parents are asked to remain in their vehicles and pull all the way forward before their child exits. If a parent needs to get out to help their child, they should pull into the parking lot and walk their child across the street and onto the playground. Jefferson Street is reserved for buses, walkers, and bike riders only.

Afternoon Pick-Up

The elementary school dismisses 10 minutes earlier than the announced dismissal time — on a 1:30 p.m. dismissal day, elementary students will be dismissed at 1:20 p.m. On regular dismissal days, students are dismissed at 3:20 p.m.

At the 3:20 p.m. dismissal, bus riders will begin boarding buses while car riders exit through the doors on Shuffleton Street. Parents parked south of the stairs may have their child come down to their vehicle. Parents parked in the parking lot are asked to walk up to the crosswalk so their child can see them and be safely walked across the street. Parents parked north of the stairs should remain in their vehicle and pull forward as students are loaded at the stairs. Parents parked a block north of the school are welcome to walk to the back doors to pick up their child — otherwise students will remain at the stairs until the vehicle pulls forward to the designated pick-up area.

At 3:25 p.m., walkers and bike riders will be dismissed through the front doors. Students are asked to walk their bikes while on school property to keep all walkers safe.
