The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and local public health agencies are responding to an outbreak of measles in Davis County.
Officials say that as of August 16th, 12 confirmed cases of measles have been identified with evidence of person-to-person spread. Two instances occurred in Bloomfield. In these cases, local health officials identified locations visited by contagious individuals, possibly exposing others to measles.
According to HHS, the first case took place on July 30th at Wells Hometown Drug, located at 208 E Franklin Street in Bloomfield, between 4:30 PM and 7:00 PM. The second instance happened on August 9th at JR Feed and Supply, located at 17599 200th Street in Bloomfield, between 8:30 AM and 6:00 PM.
Anyone present at the above locations during the listed date and time should monitor for symptoms of measles. Symptoms of measles include fever, cough, red/watery eyes, runny nose, and a rash. If you think you have been exposed to measles and have symptoms, officials recommend calling your medical provider or the nearest emergency room ahead of time and telling them before arrival that you have been exposed to measles and have symptoms.
Officials say people who are not vaccinated against measles, or who are unsure whether they are immune, should talk with their healthcare professional or local public health agency about MMR vaccination.
