The Fairfield girls tennis team swept Keokuk 9-0 for the second time this season on Thursday, August 27th, extending their streak of 9-0 victories and improving to 6-0 overall and 5-0 in Southeast Conference play. Keokuk falls to 4-3 overall and 2-3 in conference action.
Neither team had their top player available for the rematch — Fairfield’s Natalie Steele and Keokuk’s Nevaeh Logan, a back-to-back Southeast Conference Singles Champion, both sat out.
With Steele out, the lineup shifted up, with Ria Ross moving to No. 1 singles where she defeated Berkley Boyd 6-1, 6-0. Sriya Yammanur won 6-0, 6-3 over Baylee Picton at No. 2. Mareyn Dunkin was dominant at No. 3, defeating Lizzy Mason 6-0, 6-0. Faeven Gebremariam won 6-1, 6-1 over London Mueller at No. 4. Freshman Kinzley Dunkin took No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-3 over Diviya Kirschner. Aubrey Ryan rounded out singles at No. 6 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Remi Sanchez.
In doubles, Yammanur and Gebremariam defeated Boyd and Mason 10-6 at No. 1. Ross and Tara Carter won 10-1 over Picton and Mueller at No. 2. The Dunkin Duo of Mareyn and Kinzley closed things out with a dominant 10-0 victory over Kirschner and Sanchez at No. 3.
Fairfield heads to Ottumwa for a tournament on Saturday.
