It was the Anthony Johnson Jr. show in Williamsport on Monday.
The Davenport Northwest Little League standout delivered a performance to remember as Iowa defeated Bayonne Central from New Jersey 6-0 at the Little League World Series.
Johnson was dominant on the mound, striking out 15 batters while allowing just one hit and one walk over 5 2/3 innings. His performance earned him the Game Ball of the Day.
But Johnson wasn’t finished.
He also provided a huge spark at the plate, launching a three-run home run and driving in four of Iowa’s six runs. The monster blast came on MLB Day at the Little League World Series and helped put Iowa firmly in control.
With the victory, Davenport Northwest remains undefeated and stays in the winner’s bracket.
Iowa will now face Nevada from the Mountain Region, which is also 2-0 in the tournament.
The two teams will meet Wednesday, August 26, at 2 p.m. Eastern Time.
For Johnson and Davenport Northwest, Monday’s win was a statement performance on one of the biggest stages in youth baseball.
