An Ottumwa woman is facing misdemeanor charges following an alleged assault and subsequent encounter with police on July 11.
According to a criminal complaint, officers with the Ottumwa Police Department responded at approximately 7:58 p.m. to the 800 block of West 3rd Street for a reported assault. Investigators identified 25-year-old Allyson Orth of Ottumwa as the suspect.
Court records state that when Orth saw officers arrive, she allegedly ran from the area and hid behind trash cans near a garage. Police later located her.
Authorities allege Orth had been involved in a verbal argument with another woman in an open yard behind a garage. During the confrontation, Orth allegedly threw a cellular phone, striking the victim in the face. The victim reportedly suffered a bloody nose and a cut to the mouth.
According to court documents, after officers found Orth, a uniformed officer informed her she was under arrest and instructed her to place her hands behind her back. The complaint alleges Orth refused to comply and physically resisted officers as they attempted to place her in handcuffs.
Orth was transported to the Wapello County Jail and was later released on an order of disposition.
She is charged with assault, a simple misdemeanor, and interference with official acts, also a simple misdemeanor.
