The National Weather Service in Des Moines is urging Iowans to prepare for the potential of severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall beginning this afternoon and continuing through Thursday morning.
According to the latest weather briefing, the greatest threat for severe weather will be across northern, western and portions of central Iowa. Storms may produce damaging winds, large hail, frequent lightning and torrential rainfall, with localized flooding possible in areas that receive repeated rounds of storms.
Residents are encouraged to stay weather aware throughout the day and have multiple ways to receive watches and warnings. Those with outdoor plans should be prepared to seek shelter quickly if severe weather develops.
The National Weather Service will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as forecasts evolve.
