Iowa students interested in attending one of the nation’s U.S. Service Academies will have an opportunity to learn more about the congressional nomination process during a special workshop next week.
The event will be held Tuesday, July 14, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Iowa Gold Star Military Museum, located at 7105 N.W. 70th Avenue in Johnston.
The workshop is designed for students and their families who are considering applying to a U.S. Service Academy. Congressional staff will explain each step of the nomination process, discuss what academy admissions officials look for in applicants, and offer guidance on preparing a strong application.
The congressman, who served more than 20 years in the United States Air Force and continues to serve in the Air Force Reserve, said one of the greatest privileges of serving in Congress is helping nominate outstanding young Iowans to the nation’s military academies. He said military service develops leadership, character, and lifelong opportunities for those willing to serve.
Students interested in attending the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, or the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy are encouraged to attend and bring any questions they may have about the application and nomination process.
