Dale Michael “Mike” Hird, 79, of rural Bloomfield, Iowa passed away on July 1, 2026, at the Oskaloosa Care Center in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He was born on April 11, 1947, in Ottumwa, Iowa to Ernest Leroy and Rosa Bernice Bates Hird. He married Sondra Jo Findley on April 18, 1965, they were later divorced. He married Barbara Enlow on September 29, 1979.
Mike was a mechanic most of his life. He worked at Spilman Auto Parts, Harris Motor Company, and for Davis County Secondary Roads as shop foreman. Mike loved to build and tinker with things. He also spent many hours repairing children’s toys.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Barbara; two children, Jim (Debbie) Hird, Nicole (Chuck) Enlow both of Blakesburg, Iowa; two step-children, Shannon (Bonnie) Sample of Ottumwa, Iowa, Kim (Tim) Stephenson of Belknap, Iowa; three grandchildren, Matt (Jodie) Hird, Steven Enlow, Jessica (Christina) Enlow; five step-grandchildren, Alexis (DeKota) Glosser, Triston (Erica) Sample, Shawn (Haille Shappell) Stephenson, Kelsey Sample, Jayden Stephenson; ten great-grandchildren, Raelee, William, and Jaiden Hird, Lynzie Enlow, Autumn, Kylee, Remmie Glosser, Brian and Liam Enlow, Kaylee Hird; and a sister, Kathy (Steve) Smith of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, John Hird; step-son, Shawn Sample; grandson, Anthony Hird; sister, Dianne Gwynn; and a brother, Jerry Hird.
Visitation for Mike will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 6, 2026, at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with the family present to greet friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Cremation will follow the visitation. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at the Grace Pointe Church of the Nazarene in Bloomfield. Burial of the cremated remains will be at the South Prairie Cemetery in Van Buren County, Iowa at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the family to help pay for funeral expenses.
