A Van Buren County man was found guilty on three counts of Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree following a three-day jury trial in Van Buren County District Court, according to a press release from the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.
Nicholas E. Bowermaster, 66, of rural Keosauqua was convicted on Thursday, July 23rd on three Class C Felony counts of Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree. Bowermaster was originally arrested on these charges in September 2024. According to a representative of the Van Buren County Attorney’s Office, the offenses took place between 2005 and 2011. The victim had been placed into Bowermaster’s custody by the Iowa Department of Human Services, and he was her legal guardian at the time of the offenses.
Following the jury’s guilty verdict, Bowermaster’s bond was revoked and he was immediately remanded into custody, where he will remain until his sentencing on October 9th, 2026.
