Anderson says recent rains around the 4th of July holiday were beneficial to the state’s corn and soybean crops.
An extension agronomist says crop development is ramping up in central Iowa.
Meaghan Anderson is with Iowa State University and says, “We’re just starting to get into tasseling and reproductive stages here for corn. We’re probably at R2 or full flower in a lot of soybean fields.”
She tells Brownfield some growers are starting to apply fungicide.
“We’ve sort of wrapped up our herbicide applications and we’re looking toward whether or not to apply fungicides and which fields to apply them to. (Growers) are trying to decide if the disease pressure and the weather forecast is enough to warrant those applications.”
