A registered sex offender from Ottumwa is facing charges after authorities say he failed to report an online account as required by Iowa law.
According to court documents, the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office served an arrest warrant on 55-year-old Jason Reiman of Ottumwa on June 14 at approximately 5:01 p.m. in the 300 block of North Washington Street.
Court records state Reiman is a Tier III registered sex offender and is required to report and update all relevant information outlined in Iowa Code 692A.101, including internet identifiers, within five business days.
According to the criminal complaint, investigators conducted a compliance check and discovered Reiman was actively using the dating application Grindr, which requires users to create an account. Authorities allege Reiman failed to report the account to the Sheriff’s Office as required.
The complaint states that when investigators questioned him about the account, Reiman allegedly said he was “scared” and forgot to report it.
Reiman is currently being held in the Wapello County Jail on a $2,000 cash-only bond.
He is charged with first-offense sex offender registration violation, an aggravated misdemeanor.
