An Ottumwa man is facing multiple charges following an incident reported Saturday evening.

According to court records, officers with the Ottumwa Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of South Ash and Main Streets at approximately 8:00 p.m. on June 13 in response to a report of public nudity.

A criminal complaint alleges that 34-year-old P.S. Hamo of Ottumwa was observed urinating near a curb along a public roadway.

Court documents state that when officers arrived, Hamo was slurring his speech, had difficulty maintaining his balance while walking, and had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person. Authorities say he refused to submit to a preliminary breath test (PBT).

According to the complaint, Hamo was placed under arrest. While being taken into custody and while handcuffed, he allegedly spit in the face of an officer.

Hamo is currently being held in the Wapello County Jail. He is charged with public nudity, a simple misdemeanor; public intoxication, a simple misdemeanor; and assault on a person in certain occupations, an aggravated misdemeanor.
