Leona Maxine Daugherty, 76, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away on June 14, 2026, at her home surrounded by family. She was born on April 10, 1950, in Shook, Missouri to Charles Wesley and Dorothy Maxine Ossman Mason. She graduated from Davis County High School in 1969. Shortly after high school, Leona started working as a CNA at the Bloomfield Care Center. Her CNA career would span over 40 years with most years spent in Bloomfield and Pleasantville at the Pleasantville Care Center. Leona married Douglas Turner in July 1969 – they would later divorce. She married Michael Daugherty in July 1984.
Leona loved being outside and working in her garden or planting flowers. She also enjoyed sewing, baking, and spending time with her family – especially her grandchildren. She made a point to attend every school event and sporting event over the years. She was an independent person and she could accomplish anything she set her mind to. She will be forever remembered by her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Daugherty; two sons, Toby (Shirley) Turner of Bloomfield, Mike (Tricia) Daugherty of Carlisle, Iowa; daughter, Jonna Daugherty of Pensacola, Florida; seven grandchildren, Douglas, Tatum, Mayzee, Taevyn, Sabrina, Savannah, Sierra; several great-grandchildren; four sisters, Nina Scott of Manchester, New Hampshire, Nellie Worthington of Kirksville, Missouri; Kathy (Ron) Moore of Bloomfield, Marilla McGrath of Keokuk, Iowa; brother, James (Barbara) Mason of Bloomfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jacob Mason, William Mason; and two sisters, Mary Hopkins, Rachel Harnden.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2026 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield. Burial will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Following the burial, there will be a meal and time of fellowship at a location to be announced at the funeral. A visitation with the family present to greet friends will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home on Friday morning. A memorial has been established to the Davis County Look to the Stars Cancer Foundation.
