LaVon Morris Haines, 91, of Ottumwa died at 7:14 a.m. June 22, 2026 at Vista Woods Care Center.
He was born March 18, 1935 in Agency to Ralph Maurice “Pete” and Edith Fern Lewis Haines. He married the love of his life Betty Galpin September 19, 1954 and she preceded him in death May 17, 2022.
LaVon attended a rural country school until the 6th grade. He was a farmer, provided for his family and was an extremely intelligent self taught man. He also worked for International Harvester Manufacturing and a Tree Harvesting Company. LaVon owned and operated the Phillips 66 in Ottumwa as well as his own sawmill.
He loved astrology, science and teaching others what he knew. He was a very hard worker and a perfectionist.
Surviving is his daughter, Crystal Reamer of Ohio; 3 grandchildren, Jon Erik Reamer, Landon Reamer and Christian Reamer; a brother, Lonnie Haines of Ottumwa; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Shawn Anthony Haines; brothers, Robert Haines, Jim Haines and Charles Sr. Haines; sisters, Donna Rhodes, Dorothy Klyn and Marilyn Foley; and his stepmother, Zelma Mortz.
His body has been cremated. Graveside services and inurnment will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday June 27th at Shaul Cemetery with Pastor Jeremy Croteau officiating.
