A Knoxville man is facing charges after allegedly operating a vehicle while intoxicated with his wife and minor child in the vehicle.
According to court records, the Knoxville Police Department conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of North 2nd Street and East Marion Street at approximately 9:54 p.m. on June 20.
Authorities allege that upon making contact with 45-year-old James Beck of Knoxville, officers observed bloodshot, watery eyes, slurred speech, and a strong odor of alcohol. Court documents state Beck was unsteady on his feet and admitted to consuming alcohol.
Beck agreed to perform field sobriety tests. According to the criminal complaint, officers observed six clues on the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test, four clues on the Walk-and-Turn test, and three clues on the One-Leg Stand test. A preliminary breath test reportedly indicated a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit of .08%.
Beck was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was held on a $2,000 cash/surety bond.
Court records show Beck was advised of Iowa’s implied consent law and later provided a breath sample that registered a blood alcohol concentration of .155%.
Beck is charged with Operating While Under the Influence, Second Offense (Aggravated Misdemeanor), and Child Endangerment (Aggravated Misdemeanor).
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for June 30.
