John Michael O’Brien, 70, of Ottumwa died at 1:50 p.m. June 2, 2026 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
He was born April 8, 1956 in Ottumwa to George Edward O’Brien Sr. and Ann G. Pavletich O’Brien.
John attended St. Patrick School and graduated from Ottumwa High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Northern Iowa. John worked at Everco in Ottumwa and Carquest in Ankeny. After retiring he moved back to Ottumwa.
John loved watching sports, including the Los Angeles Rams and especially the Chicago Cubs.
Surviving are his siblings, Mary Carolyn O’Brien, Tom (Rhonda) O’Brien both of Ottumwa and Patty (Mark) Slack of Kirkville; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, George E. O’Brien Jr.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday June 9th at Reece Funeral Home. Family will be present to greet friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
