Iowans will head to the polls Tuesday, June 2, for the state’s primary election, and election officials are encouraging voters to make sure they are prepared before arriving at their polling place.
To vote on Election Day, individuals must be registered to vote. Those who are not yet registered can still do so at their polling location by providing acceptable proof of identity and proof of residence that matches their current voting precinct.
During the primary election, voters will select either a Republican or Democratic ballot and vote for candidates within that party. The winners of those contests will advance to the general election in November.
Polls across Iowa will be open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
Election officials also remind voters that curbside voting is available for those who are unable to enter a polling place because of health or mobility concerns. Voters can request assistance upon arrival, and two election workers will bring voting materials to their vehicle. Voters can mark their ballot from their car and will need to present identification. Absentee ballots may also be returned using this method.
In Wapello County, voters needing curbside assistance can call the Auditor’s Office at 641-683-0020 when they arrive at their polling location.
Officials encourage voters to review polling place information, bring the required identification, and allow extra time if they need to register on Election Day. Every vote cast in the primary helps determine which candidates will appear on the November ballot.
