The Heartland Humane Society is recognizing Ottumwa Community School District Superintendent Michael McGrory and the entire school district for the tremendous success of Dusty’s Big Dog Challenge, a community-wide fundraiser that generated more than $25,000 to support animals in need.
What began as a fundraising effort quickly grew into a movement, thanks to the participation and generosity of students, staff, families, and schools throughout the district.
According to Heartland Humane Society, the donations will help provide approximately a year’s worth of food and supplies for shelter animals. The challenge also helped bring attention to pet adoption efforts, contributing to 140 animals finding loving homes.
To recognize his leadership and support of the initiative, Heartland Humane Society presented McGrory with a plaque honoring his role in helping turn compassion into action and inspiring community involvement.
Shelter officials expressed their gratitude to every participating school, student, educator, staff member, and family who contributed to the fundraiser’s success. They noted that the overwhelming support demonstrated what can be accomplished when a community comes together to help animals in need.
Heartland Humane Society said the impact of Dusty’s Big Dog Challenge will be felt for months to come, both through the resources it provided and the lives it helped change.
