The National Weather Service in Des Moines is urging Iowans to stay weather-aware as the potential for heavy rainfall, flash flooding, and severe storms increases late today and into tonight.
Forecasters say repeated rounds of rain could lead to localized flash flooding in parts of the state, especially in areas that receive the heaviest downpours. Severe weather is also possible, with conditions favorable for strong thunderstorms.
The threat may not end after tonight. Additional rounds of heavy rain are possible later this weekend, which could increase flooding concerns in areas that receive significant rainfall over the next several days.
Residents are encouraged to monitor forecasts closely, have multiple ways to receive weather alerts, and avoid driving through flooded roadways. Conditions can change quickly, and flooding can occur with little warning.
